This Week
This week we are continuing learning about the water cycle. We are currently graphing the evaporation of water in our classroom. Students learned the difference between evaporation and condensation. This week, we will tie it all together while learning about the water cycle.
In math we are starting a new unit on money. I appreciate all the homework that is coming back in. These problems definitely help reinforce concepts taught in class.
In writing we are starting a unit on expository essays. Students will need to explain how to cook, bake, or make something to eat. I hope they have fun with this assignment!

This week we are starting the water cycle for science. We will be focusing on the following vocabulary words: vapor, water cycle, evaporation, condensation, freezing, and thaw. Please ask your child what he or she is learning in science this week. I am excited about this unit and hope we have fun learning about the water cycle!
In math we are finishing up our unit on place value. Students will need to be able to identify the place values in a 6-digit number. They will also have to order these numbers from smallest to largest. The homework this week will help students prepare for the test on Friday.
I appreciate the help we had at the Christmas Party last month. Students had a great time. I hope everyone enjoyed their break!

Dear Parents,
Today we worked on a strategy called “I PICK” for reading. This will help students to pick books that are appropriate for them. Below are the steps we are using to choose books for ourselves. This is a great strategy to use when going to the bookstore or library.
I PICK
Good Fit Books
I look at a book
P urpose (Why do I want to read it?)
I nterest (Does it interest me?)
C omprehend (Am I understanding what I am reading?)
K now (I know most of the words)
